Walter Andrade - Remembered 50yrs after 1960

Do not really recall the exact year or class in which Walter joined us. But I do remember that he was in the ranks of my best friends - surely one among those who could be counted on the fingers of a single hand! ....till of course, life for him took a serious turn, after which even the rare and casual encounters we've had were nothing really to write home about! Wish you could let down your hair a bit Reverend!!!!

Invariably on the first bench with me in class - the other two so privileged being Chicky Bonaventure Martis and Canute Machado - the four of us forever vying with each other for the "shortest in height" honour! (None of the other three of us stood a chance with Chicky of course - so Walter comfortably slid into the second shortest slot, while Canute and I sparred for the third slot - sometimes he edged me out to the fourth slot, at other times I edged him out of the third slot.
Walter was always holy - he was the first assistant prefect in the sodality, while I was the second. Brilliant at his studies and a serious guy with "no nonsense" approach - it wasn't a surprise to any of us when he heeded the call of the cloth to become a Jesuit.
